Ontario Elementary School Teachers Collective Agreement

In a press release Tuesday morning, the Ontario Federation of Elementary Teachers (ETFO) said the majority of its members voted to adopt the interim agreement reached in mid-March. ETFO is the largest teachers` union in the province and represents 83,000 primary school teachers, occasional teachers and education professionals. Every ETFO member has an interest in reading and understanding the agreement and supporting the local negotiation process. TORONTO — The union representing elementary school teachers in Ontario has ratified an agreement with the provincial government, formally ending a months-long struggle that has resulted in numerous strikes and shifting labour actions. About 97 percent of teachers and teachers voted in favor of the deal, the union said, and 94 percent of education workers voted to continue the new contract. In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce praised the union for ratifying the interim agreement and said the government`s main goal was to “reach a good deal” with teachers and unions.
